State visit to Lindholmen Science Park focuses on sustainable transportation

Friday, February 24, 2017

King Carl Gustav, Canada’s Governor General Johnston, Prince Carl Philip and a delegation made up of government and business professionals, participated in animated discussions on the development of Gothenburg city, as well as shipping and transportation from a sustainable viewpoint. In addition, representatives from the Canadian port of Halifax were able to exchange experiences during the visit.

Lindholmspiren was full of office workers, students and inquisitive day-care children when the boat Älvfrida docked at the quay and the Governor General, the King and Prince Carl Philip went ashore with their delegation and waved to everyone.

The Ericsson premises welcomed Johnny Magnusson, Chairman of the Regional Board of the Västra Götaland region, to Lindholmen Science Park - the region’s innovation cluster. Discussions about development and cooperation between the government, industry and university were on the agenda. Lindholmen Science Park has been transformed from an industrial and shipyard area to a dynamic and innovative arena for cooperation.

Discussions continued on the subject of sustainable shipping and representatives from the Canadian port of Halifax were happy to exchange experiences with the port of Gothenburg.

The Governor General stated that he was both impressed and inspired by Sweden’s innovative power and mentioned electric buses as an example.

This was a fitting comment as the party left Lindholmen Science Park on the environmentally-friendly bus route 55, the Electric bus. In the afternoon they visited the Volvo Truck Experience Center, where they were welcomed by Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of Volvo Group. The delegation was very interested in the different angles of sustainable transportation.
