The 2009 World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems will be held in Stockholm on 21–25 September. Some 5,000 participants will discuss intelligent transport systems, or ITS, a collective name for solutions that contribute to more efficient, greener transport systems for passengers and goods. Attendees will include government ministers, business leaders in the transport field, researchers and innovators.

The five-day conference will also mark the world premiere of the Lindholmen Science Park’s demo theatre, a project that fits will with the overall goal of the conference: To demonstrate Swedish and Nordic intelligent transport solutions and their importance in the daily lives of individuals and businesses. During the course of the week, the demo theatre will present five future scenarios showing how they will affect people’s lives.

The first scenario, on the theme of safe, sustainable transports, will be presented on Tuesday. Visitors will be able to watch a shipment of goods – which in this presentation talk and think like people – and the challenges they face during transport.

- We’re going to show various environments, projected on big screens and featuring professional actors, says Niklas Wahlberg, CEO of the Lindholmen Science Park. The idea is to show in a new and exciting way how various intelligent transport system solutions may work in the future and the incredible potential they offer.

The project is a joint effort involving the Lindholmen Science Park, Test Site Sweden, the Swedish Road Administration, Volvo, Netport Karlshamn, Vinnova and the Västra Götaland Region.

The world congress in Stockholm offers companies, authorities and researchers an opportunity to demonstrate solutions that can hopefully contribute to more efficient travel and greener transports. This is the first time the ITS World Congress is held in the Nordic countries.
