Kunskapsträff: Autonomous mobility

-
Showroom
Arranged by:
Lindholmen Science Park

What will autonomous vehicles mean for Gothenburg and Western Sweden?
How can we prepare Gothenburg and Western Sweden to lead the development and harness the opportunities for better services, smarter traffic flows, and quieter, zero-emission transport — without increasing costs?
What role should cities, regions, and public-sector actors play as the next generation of passenger and freight transport is rolled out?

THE CHALLENGE WE FACE

Autonomous vehicles have long been a topic on the horizon, but development is now beginning to accelerate in earnest — internationally, nationally, and locally. The main task for the City of Gothenburg and the Västra Götaland Region (VGR) is to harness the potential of this technology to deliver precisely these societal benefits.

The challenge is to elevate the issue to the right level, understand the bigger picture across both passenger and freight transport, and determine how regulations and responsibilities need to be addressed as the technology meets the real world. We need to understand how to navigate this development in order to future-proof our region and ensure that the technology creates tangible value for its residents.

THE PATH TOWARDS SHARED BENEFITS

We want to explore the potential for Gothenburg and VGR to become a leading reference region for autonomous vehicles. The knowledge-sharing event is being held in collaboration with Green City Zone and Drive Sweden’s project Sweden’s Transformation Map for Autonomous Mobility.

To get there, we are asking questions such as:

  • What is the current state of autonomous transport, and what tangible value can it create for us?
  • What decisions do we, as public-sector actors, need to make now to facilitate its deployment?
  • How are regulations and responsibilities evolving in an autonomous transport system?
  • What mandates and partnerships are needed to quickly launch pilots in our region?

WELCOME TO HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE

On 23 September, we invite you to a knowledge-sharing event where, together, we will establish the arena for autonomous mobility. This is an opportunity to ask questions, get answers, and gain a clearer understanding of how development may unfold.

We will discuss how Sweden is approaching the issue and provide an up-to-date picture of the current situation. The goal is to establish a shared knowledge base and begin identifying the decisions, partnerships, and “expeditions” needed going forward.

Together, we can ensure that Gothenburg and Western Sweden are ready.
