Communications Minister inaugurates the world's first electric car pool

Friday, June 26, 2009

On 3 July, Åsa Torstensson, the Swedish Minister for Communications, will inaugurate the world’s first complete electric car pool at Lindholmen Science Park in Göteborg.

The new electric car stations are an environmental initiative by Lindholmen Science Park and the company Move About for a sustainable transport system.

The new electric car pool will be inaugurated at Lindholmen Science Park by Åsa Torstensson, the Swedish Minister for Communications. It includes specially designed stations for electric car pools and a customised system for booking electric cars.

The initiative at Lindholmen Science Park is part of a drive towards promoting a sustainable transport system, in which public transport can be combined with electric cars from the car pool when the companies’ employees need cars for work-related travel. Because car pool users use public transport to a greater extent than car owners, Move About has instigated a collaboration with Västtrafik, a Göteborg public transport company, to promote further integration between different forms of transport. Move About will also collaborate with players including real estate companies and an energy provider.

Time Friday 3 July 1:30-2:45 p.m.
Place  Lindholmen Science Park (next to the car park at the main building)

Åsa Torstensson, Minister for Communications, will arrive at the Central Station, where a temporary booking point has been installed. She will drive one of the car pool’s Think Cars from the Central Station to the inauguration at Lindholmen.

In conjunction with the inauguration, visitors will have the opportunity to test drive the car pool’s Think Cars and a Segway (a vehicle with an electric engine). Visitors can also try out the electric car pool's booking system.
