Future mobility in focus when Anna Johansson met the Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Environment

"It was a great opportunity to discuss future mobility solutions with the two ministers, particularly given the current Dutch chairmanship of the European Union. We all agreed that both countries are in a great position to make this happen, but continued close collaboration – across government/industry/academia – will be crucial for success", says Jan Hellåker, Program Director Drive Sweden. 

“The development of driverless vehicles and other technical innovation in the transport area is important for the Government of Sweden. I am very happy to have had the possibility to show the work we do here in Sweden to my Dutch colleague Ms Schultz van Haegen, especially since our governments share the interest in innovative and sustainable transport solutions. Driverless vehicles can contribute to both sustainable transport and new jobs,” says Ms Johansson.
 
 Ms Schultz van Haegen: I am very impressed with the activities in Sweden in the field of automatic driving. The Drive me project is a good example of the learning by doing approach, which I believe will bring this development closer to reality. We have much to gain regarding traffic flow, traffic safety and reduction of emissions. I also believe it is very important to work together on a European scale since we have to avoid that we will need an update in order to cross the borders in the future. 

Ms Johansson and Ms Schultz van Haegen also met with representatives of the City of Gothenburg to learn more about the city’s work on smart mobility solutions. The ministers also had the opportunity to discuss the statement on driverless car technology and alcohol interlocks ahead of the informal meeting of transport ministers in Amsterdam on 14 April this year.
