The Västra Götaland Region sees growth potential at Lindholmen Science Park

Thursday, June 18, 2009

On 11 June this year the regional development board decided to implement an extensive programme to stimulate re-organisation and sustainable development in the business sector of Västra Götaland. The board is setting aside SEK 150 million to the programme, entitled “InMotion – a mobilisation of environment, energy and sustainable transport solutions.”

InMotion aims to stimulate re-organisation and sustainable development in the Västra Götaland business community. The goal is to mobilise skills and resources in the industrial, public and education sectors to develop a number of strategic focuses for the future, which can generate positive effects for West Sweden’s competitiveness in the short and long terms.
“We want to make better use of opportunities to spearhead re-organisation and development through innovative purchasing and business-driven sustainable development,” says Kent Johansson, chairman of the regional development board, in a press release. “We also hope that InMotion will bolster competitive research and innovation environments so that academics and institutions merge even more with industrial development and applications.”

Goal to be European leaders
The overall goal of the InMotion programme is that “Västra Götaland will be one of Europe’s leading regions in environment, energy and the next generation of sustainable transport solutions.”

Measures in the following six areas are top priority:
1. Environments for knowledge development, testing and demonstration
2. Development projects – products, services and processes
3. Internationalisation
4. Market-influencing measures – developing methods for innovation procurement
5. Company financing
6. Enhancing the two collaboration platforms: the Lindholmen Science Park in Göteborg and Innovatum in Trollhättan
