Four mobility innovation projects receive financing through Future Mobility
Future Mobility, the neutral innovation platform facilitated by Sweden's Innovation Agency, Vinnova, and Lindholmen Science Park, has granted funding to four projects focused on sustainable mobility.
This latest funding round reflects the potential of US-Swedish collaboration to pave the way for an innovative transportation future, as proposals have parties in both countries and integrate industry, public administration, and academic institutions. The projects, taking place between 2023 and 2024, cover several areas within the field of sustainability, from creating an urban mobility design handbook for cities to producing a framework for a woman-centered mobility hub.
The funding seeks to provide more than financial support to the initiatives, but also foster partnership and knowledge exchange that can empower innovators to turn their ideas into reality.
About the selected projects
Transit Oriented Development (TOD), mobility hubs and Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAVs)
Partners: KTH Royal Institute of Technology, 4Dialog AB, Stockholm University, SWECO AB and University of Alabama
The project will envision future mobility scenarios and explore implementations of mobility hubs with electric Shared Autonomous Vehicles (SAVs) in Swedish and American suburbs. It will emphasize mobility hubs as public spaces with multiple and flexible city functions that change throughout the day.
The Street Value Tool
Partners: Spacescape AB, OAWA On A Wednesday Afternoon AB, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB, and Street Plans Collaborative Inc.
This project seeks to develop The Street Value Tool as a web app and adapt it to North American Cities. The main objective of the tool is to help planners and decision-makers change streets, predominantly problematically car-oriented, to greener, walkable, bikeable, livable urban spaces.
A Design Framework for Women-Centered Mobility Hub
Partners: Living Cities and Communities AB and Shared Use Mobility Center
The project will develop a Design Framework for Women-Centered Mobility Hubs, co-located centers that offer various shared mobility options such as public transit, on-demand microtransit, micromobility (bike and scooter), pickup and drop-off zones for ridesharing services, and more. The development will center women, even in minor design considerations, at the same time increasing accessibility for other vulnerable users of transportation systems.
Carbon-free zone for transportation of goods in San José
Partners: Cake 0 Emission AB, City of San José, and Volta Trucks AB
Through a Swedish consortium of companies all within emission-free transportation, the project intends to show how the city of San José can practically realize its objective of becoming a climate-neutral city by 2030. It will develop a collaboration between Cake, Volta, and the City of San José as well as delivery companies such as Amazon Delivery, UPS, DHL to enable emission-free delivery of goods within designated zones.
