Further investment for Security Arena

Friday, January 29, 2010

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) and Lindholmen Science Park have signed a new three-year framework agreement on research and development in civil security covering the period 2010–2012.

Under the three-year agreement, which is worth at least SEK 30 million, the Civil Contingencies Agency will provide new funding for applied research and technology development in civil security. The work will be based at Lindholmen Science Park in Gothenburg and will focus on three areas:

• Improving resources for generating new and innovative solutions to handle accidents and crises more effectively.
• Stimulating and developing partnerships with more universities, colleges, institutes and companies.
• Continuing to build on the involvement of practitioners and specialists in the research and development process.

“We’re pleased that the partnership with MSB is continuing. It means that we can extend our activities and continue to invest in research and development to find innovative solutions in the civil security sector,” said Bo Norrhem, Project Manager at Lindholmen Science Park.

Lindholmen Science Park has been carrying out research and development on behalf of MSB in the collaborative Security Arena since 2006. This work involves co-operation between Saab AB, Ericsson, Volvo, Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg and a large number of specialists from industry, municipal government and various authorities.

Lindholmen Science Park Security Arena enables stakeholders to carry out research and develop technology and methods that will help strengthen and develop society’s ability to prevent and deal with accidents and crises. The main focus of activity is the development of adaptable, needs-based tools and methods for new and future capabilities in the accident and crisis management system.
