Grand opening of India House

Wednesday, November 29, 2023

Every year, many Indians move to Gothenburg for work and studies. Today there are around 10,000 Indians living here and the number is only getting higher. The majority of them are engineers and IT experts and many of them work for companies located in expansive Lindholmen. This Sunday, an Indian cultural center will also open in the area, the organizers believe that around 1000 people will come.

''There are many Indians living in Gothenburg, but the problem is often to find a suitable platform that gives them an opportunity to blend into the new culture and people while retaining their own culture and roots'', says Ravinder Raj from HTSOG Trustee which is a non-profit organization with the aim of establishing a cultural center for Indian immigrants in Gothenburg.

With elements such as yoga, Ayurveda, meditation, cooking and Indian classical dance, they hope to attract many, both Indians and Swedes. The place will also be an incubation place for small start-up companies that need networking and mentoring help from already established companies operating in Gothenburg and Lindholmen is then a natural place for that.

''We hope that our premises at Kunskapsgatan 1 Lindholmen will become a cultural center for Indians living in and around Gothenburg, but also that it will make more Swedes interested in Indian culture. Many people already work at Lindholmen, so it felt like a natural step to establish here'', says Ravinder Raj.

Martin Nilbo is team leader for leasing at Älvstranden Utveckling AB and is very happy about the establishment and what it means for the area.

''Lindholmen is already a very international area today and when we can now add an Indian cultural center to it, we are creating yet another new dimension. We warmly welcome them to the area and hope that the business will flourish'', he says.
