Joining forces to make Sweden a world leader

Monday, May 22, 2017

The Swedish Minister for Enterprise and Innovation, Mikael Damberg, met representatives of the Swedish automotive industry, academia and the City of Gothenburg at Lindholmen Science Park, to discuss a national research venture to make Sweden a world leader in electromobility. The Swedish culture of cooperation and innovation was highlighted by all of the parties as being extremely important in global competition.

Leading representatives from CEVT, Scania, Volvo Cars, the Volvo Group, Chalmers, Uppsala University, Linköping University, RISE, the Swedish Electromobility Center and the City of Gothenburg were in attendance to meet Mikael Damberg and discuss the venture, inwhich all of the parties will join forces to strengthen research and development in this area.

The discussions have led to the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), which has its head office at Lindholmen, being assigned to prepare a proposal on how a new national research environment could be structured and financed.

“We foresee major opportunities for Sweden to lead the development of electromobility and RISE has a central role to play in this. We have secured this assignment as a result of the combination of expertise, testing and demo resources, experience and the ability to assemble key players around a shared challenge,” says Pia Sandvik, President of RISE.
