New parking in the area

Construction is in full swing at Lindholmen. In actuality, this means that parking spaces disappear, while the amount of people moving in the area increases. Public transport is being expanded, but until full capacity is reached, temporary parking is needed to meet the needs of those who today choose to visit Lindholmen by car.

The new parking facility at Andromedagatan, which opens on April 17, is located on the northwestern edge of Lindholmen and has a total of 415 parking spaces distributed over two surfaces on each side of the street.

- The parking lot is supposed to relieve central Lindholmen and reduce the amount of cars circulating. There are also Styr&Ställ bikes and electric kick bikes here, so it's fine to leave the car here and continue with another means of transport if you have a bit to go to your destination, says Elisabeth Nilsson, head of unit at Gothenburg City Parking and the person responsible for the project.

In the car park, there is also a bicycle parking space under cover, with a bicycle pump and a bench. The car park connects to the pedestrian and bicycle path on Lindholmen, which makes it easy to get to and from the site on foot or by bicycle. Proximity to public transport also makes it easy to park and continue by bus or ferry across the river.

The proportion of rechargeable vehicles is increasing rapidly. On Andromedagatan, there are 69 charging points right from the start, two of which are accessible. Places can also be made available for car pools that want to establish themselves on the site. The building permit for the parking facility runs until December 31, 2026, with a possible extension of a maximum of ten years if the need remains.

-  To begin with, we only offer visitor parking on site. Further on, my colleagues will investigate the possibilities of also offering permit parking, says Elisabeth Nilsson.

Through the parking lot on Andromedagatan, Gothenburg City Parking ensures good accessibility to Lindholmen, while the company contributes to the development of Gothenburg in accordance with the city's goals and vision. The demand and occupancy between central and more peripheral parts of Lindholmen can be evened out with the new ground parking. This means reduced congestion and search traffic when motorists are looking for a free parking space. By collecting parking in larger facilities, the spaces can also be shared by more people, which means that fewer parking spaces are needed.
