A day filled with inspiration, innovation, and interesting talks

Monday, September 25, 2023

Lindholmen Open Day is an annual event organized by Lindholmen Science Park in collaboration with partners and neighbors in the area. This year, it took place on September 20th at Lindholmspiren 3-5, filling both Gågatan and Älvrummet with exhibitors and inspiring lectures.

The purpose of the event is to highlight all the innovation that is generated through collaborations in Lindholmen Science Park's dynamic environment. It is also an opportunity for organizations active both within the area and in the broader ecosystem to showcase themselves and network with each other, which can lead to new collaborations.

“This year, a record number of businesses wanted to be part of the program, and we had a total of 28 exhibitors and 37 speakers, all contributing to knowledge-sharing and many interesting discussions,” says Karin Weijdegård, project manager for Lindholmen Open Day.

Visitors were greeted by exhibited vehicles right outside the entrance. This included a test drive with Lynk & Co and a display of cars of the new brand Lotus, which attracted many curious visitors. In Älvrummet, there were short lectures throughout the day, featuring speakers such as Alwin Bakkenes, Head of Software at Volvo Cars, Marcus Nilsson from Zenseact, discussing how new technology can create safer cars, and Annika Wilén from Älvstranden Development, painting the picture of the ongoing development of the Lindholmen area.

Collaborator of the Year 2023

As the grand finale of the stage program, the Collaborator of the Year award was presented for the fifth consecutive year. This year, it was awarded to Eva Essvik, Head of Business Collaborations, Partnerships, and Digital Innovation at GöteborgsOperan, recognized for her dedication to finding new ways to attract audiences in collaboration with other stakeholders.

“We want the heritage we manage to reach many more people. To do that, we need to broaden our perspective and see how we can reach different target audiences. This doesn't mean everything should be streamed, but rather that people should take notice of performing arts and the Opera so that we can attract them to discover this sense of community that performing arts entail.”

This year, an honorary award was also presented, and it went to Glenn Evans at Älvrummet, who has tirelessly guided groups around the area since the inception of Lindholmen Science Park over 20 years ago.

Social activities concluded the day

For those interested in learning more about new technology and innovations in the audiovisual field after the program in Älvrummet was over, Visual Arena organized an event on how Virtual Production is transforming the TV and film industry, as well as a mingle in their exhibition featuring storytelling, interactive artworks, digital twins, and much more.

Another recurring feature of Lindholmen Open Day is the Lindholmen Relay. This year, it was organized by the athletics club Ullevi Vikingen, and over 50 teams participated in the four stages of 2.5 km each. The winners were Zenseact 12 (one of the company's 13 participating teams) with a time of 37.44.

To top it off, Uni3 by Geely and Clarion Hotel the Pier hosted a well-attended After Work event on the hotel's enclosed rooftop terrace.

“There has been significant enthusiasm surrounding the day, and many recognize the value of being part of creating a creative community in the area. We are already looking forward to next year and how we can further develop the day to make it even better and involve even more stakeholders,” says Karin Weijdegård.
