Unique collaboration around Ukrainian refugees and Swedish companies

Monday, October 16, 2023

When the war in Ukraine broke out, Lindholmen Science Park and several organizations chose to join together in a project for Ukrainians who had come to Gothenburg. At the final conference of #CareConnectWithUkraine, partners and participants shared their experiences.

The purpose of the collaboration within #CareConnectWithUkraine was to build bridges between Swedish companies and Ukrainian job seekers, and in the years 2022-2023, 550 participants and 50 companies were involved. Among the results are more than 100 success stories where people have started new jobs and also gained a sense of belonging in Swedish society.

Through cooperation, job fairs, seminars, and teaching sessions were arranged within the framework of the project. In the meantime, successful collaborations were also developed with The University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

Experiences shared

The project team consisted of people from the non-profit organization Help Ukraine Gothenburg as well as a Project Manager and Communications Manager from Lindholmen Science Park. At the final conference, the audience listened to strong but - in many cases - optimistic stories.

We have developed a special collaboration and we hope that many more can be inspired here today. It is also a way to say thank you to all those who have been involved in the project and show that we would never have been able to carry out the project without their help, we would never have been able to do and offer all this on our own, says Mariya Melnyk, Project Leader Lindholmen Science Park.

Continued support in the next phase

The work to support Ukrainians in Gothenburg needs to continue nevertheless. Thanks to funding from the European Social Fund, the work has been scaled up and in September 2023 the project was granted support again. The new phase is called "Empower UA" and focuses on the areas of labor market integration, inclusion through education and psychological support. Now the project is run by Help Ukraine Gothenburg in collaboration with the Swedish Church and International House Gothenburg.

Lindholmen Science Park continues to support the project in the ways we can through our network.

- I see value in using the strength we have as a collaboration platform and how we can contribute to this initiative. Through our extensive network of companies, we can quickly mobilize contacts and connections. In this, we have clear and concrete support from our owners, says Tord Hermansson, CEO of Lindholmen Science Park.
